Design Goals:
- Competitive hull combining and improving upon the finer points of existing competitive designs.
- High resistance to nose diving and pitching with a low wetted surface area and a high tolerance to crew weight.
- Beam to hull contact is as large as reasonably possible in order to provide maximum platform stiffness.
- An eye towards styling to make the boat aesthetically desirable.
Design Process:
- Studied and analyzed existing competitive designs taking into account the known sailing characteristics of these existing designs to provide a foundation point for design decisions.
- Produced a series of new hull shapes and compared various design calculations to existing designs over a range of crew weights from 75-85kg.
- Selected the new basic design shape based on the best resulting design numbers across the crew weight range for all wind / water conditions.
- The best resulting design was then stylized above the water line to give the boat a sleek, high tech look.
- Transferred the design to a set of high quality CNC milled molds for production.
EVO Construction:
All EVO A-class catamaran hulls are built using Carbon Fiber, Corecell and Kevlar in a triple bagged sandwiched construction process.
Once the female molds have been prepped, the outer coating of gelcoat is sprayed in followed by the outer layup of either Kevlar (XT) or Carbon Fiber (HT) and resin. This is vacuum bagged to remove excess resin and reduce or stop print through on the hulls. Once this step is completed, preformed corecell is placed into position with additional reinforcements and resin. This step is also vacuum bagged and heat treated to improve laminate adhesion and reduce the likelihood of post construction laminate failure.
Finally, the inner skin of carbon fiber, resin and final reinforcements are layed in and vacuum bagged to remove all excess and unnecessary resin to ensure as lightweight a final construction as possible.
Standard Configuration:
All complete boats are equipped with the latest in high performance A-class sails from Cogan Sail Design and are cut to order based on skipper preference. Customers who prefer to use their own sail maker are welcome to do so and will receive a $1,200. 00 credit toward purchase price.
